The AMA page takes questions for the week before the AMA. A free account is all you need to ask, under your name or anonymously. Voting the questions up is what a community account is for.
The guest answers questions
Live on the AMA page from 11:00 AM Eastern Time on Thursday, working down from the highest voted question. Follow-up questions are welcome.
The transcript stays at the same URL
After the AMA, the page becomes the edited transcript. Free to read without an account.
How do you ask a question?
Questions open a week before the AMA and a box appears on the page. Write it and sign in with a free account. Community members' questions show their name and go up straight away. Everyone else's are posted anonymously, with no name shown anywhere, and we read them before they appear. The guest works down the list by votes, so the questions the room most wants answered go first.
How do you make an account?
Give an email address or use Google, and we send a sign-in code. There is no password to make and no card to enter. Create an account.
Is it free to ask a question?
Yes. Asking is free with an account, and the transcript stays readable without one at all. Voting is the part that needs a community account, because votes decide the order the guest answers in.
Can I ask in any language?
Yes. Answers are translated into the language you set in your profile settings.
