Youth football injury prevention should teach players what early discomfort can mean

Before sprinting, pressing or small-sided games, young players need a quick way to report pain, heavy legs, poor sleep or instability; staff need rules for reducing or stopping work after that report.
Kimotsuki et al.’s Frontiers interview study interviewed 10 young Japanese athletes with diagnosed acute sports injuries, mostly ACL and other knee injuries, across sports including lacrosse, handball, basketball, ultimate and gymnastics. Every athlete had lost at least a week of sport. 1
